How much does a frameless shower door cost in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
There is no useful square-foot price for custom glass. The real drivers are the number and size of panels, the glass thickness, whether there is a door or only a fixed panel, the hardware finish you choose, and whether an existing enclosure has to be removed first. A single fixed panel is at the lower end. A large walk-in with a door, return panel and heavy half-inch glass is at the upper end. How long does a shower glass installation take?
The installation itself is usually a single visit of a few hours. The longer part is fabrication, because the glass is cut and tempered to your measurements after the field measure. Plan on roughly one to two weeks between the measure and the install for a typical custom enclosure.
Can you replace my framed shower door with frameless glass?
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do. We remove the old framed unit and its track, assess the opening as it actually sits, and cut new glass to fit. Older walls are rarely square, which is exactly why an off-the-shelf door from a big-box store usually will not sit correctly.
What thickness of glass should I use?
Most residential enclosures use 3/8 inch tempered glass, which is strong enough for standard door and panel layouts. Half-inch is used for large unsupported panels, tall ceiling-height openings and heavy doors. Thicker is not automatically better. We will tell you when 3/8 inch is genuinely fine for your opening.
Do you install steam shower glass?
Yes. A true steam enclosure has to be sealed at the top, usually with a transom panel, and needs a vent. It is a different design to a standard shower, so mention the steam generator at the first call because it changes both the panel layout and the price.
Do you do more than showers?
Yes. We replace residential window glass and fogged double-pane units, build and rebuild window screens and solar screens, and cut mirrors and table top glass to size. Glass work is glass work.
How do I keep hard water spots off new glass?
North Texas water leaves mineral deposits quickly, and they etch if left. Squeegee the glass after each shower, keep the bathroom ventilated, and clean with a non-abrasive product before spots harden. We can also talk through protective glass coatings at the measure and be straight with you about what they do and do not achieve.
